The Next Morning

Knight Phoenix awoke the next morning and looked up. His wife, Sarah was sitting at the foot of the bed staring at the TV. She was the most beautiful girl in the world. She had light, brown hair and blue eyes.

“’Morning” he said to her as he yawned

“Hey.” She replied. There was something wrong with her. He could tell.

“What’s wrong?” he asked.

“This.” She said as she pointed to the television.

He looked at the TV. It was the news. He listened:

This mysterious Knight Phoenix has put another two criminals behind bars last night. However, that’s not all he did. Our sources tell us that he dropped one of the criminals from the sky and broke his femur. He also set the other criminal on fire. So is this masked vigilante any better than the criminals he’s catching? We will have more coming up on this “Angel of Fire” after this break.

Sarah switched off the TV. The two of them sat in silence for just a moment.

“This is not okay.” Sarah said to him, “What did we talk about?”

“Look.” He said, “I had no choice, the guy had a gun… he pointed it at me! Have you ever had a gun pointed in your face?” He was starting to yell.

“No Dean!” she yelled, “I’ve never had a gun pointed in my face! But, it sure makes me feel pretty good knowing that my husband is going out every night in the dark and risking his life for no reason!”
“No reason?!” He yelled back, “I am cleaning up these streets every day. Getting rid of the scum that rule this town! Do you want our children to grow up in this Hell hole?!”

“I won’t have your kids if you keep going out every night like this!” She yelled. She was in tears now.

“What do you want from me, Sarah?” he asked

“I want a husband, Dean. Not a super hero.” She replied

“Well, I’m sorry.” He said, “But this is who I am, and I wouldn’t get rid of it for anyone.”

Sarah fell completely into tears. She put her hands over her eyes and ran out of the room, sobbing.

Dean cursed, He bowed his head and closed his eyes.

Dean got up and put on his grey suit, and walked into the kitchen where he found Sarah sitting with a mug of coffee that said “World’s Best Wife” on it. She had her hands over her face and was in tears. Dean walked over to her, and put his hand on her shoulder.

“Hey…” he said in a comforting whisper, “I’m sorry… You deserve so much more than this… And I’m sorry that I’ve been such a bad husband to you…”

He knelt down so that their eyes were at level with one another.

“You are the most wonderful woman in the world.” He said as he brushed her hair out of her face, “And you deserve a man that is willing to set aside everything he has planned for himself, so that he can be there for you. I’m done. I’m done being a super hero. It seams that I’m not helping anyone… Not the police, Not the city, Not our marriage… From now on, Knight Phoenix is dead.”

Sarah looked up at him. “No.” she said to him, “No… Knight Phoenix needs to stay. You have been more helpful than any six police officers… You are a super hero. And you can’t escape it.”

“Sarah, there are other heroes like X-Ray, and Bolt, and Kyle, an-“

“No!” She replied, “No, you need to do this!”
