The Next Morning

Knight Phoenix awoke the next morning and looked up. His wife, Sarah was sitting at the foot of the bed staring at the TV. She was the most beautiful girl in the world. She had light, brown hair and blue eyes.

“’Morning” he said to her as he yawned

“Hey.” She replied. There was something wrong with her. He could tell.

“What’s wrong?” he asked.

“This.” She said as she pointed to the television.

He looked at the TV. It was the news. He listened:

This mysterious Knight Phoenix has put another two criminals behind bars last night. However, that’s not all he did. Our sources tell us that he dropped one of the criminals from the sky and broke his femur. He also set the other criminal on fire. So is this masked vigilante any better than the criminals he’s catching? We will have more coming up on this “Angel of Fire” after this break.

Sarah switched off the TV. The two of them sat in silence for just a moment.

“This is not okay.” Sarah said to him, “What did we talk about?”

“Look.” He said, “I had no choice, the guy had a gun… he pointed it at me! Have you ever had a gun pointed in your face?” He was starting to yell.

“No Dean!” she yelled, “I’ve never had a gun pointed in my face! But, it sure makes me feel pretty good knowing that my husband is going out every night in the dark and risking his life for no reason!”
“No reason?!” He yelled back, “I am cleaning up these streets every day. Getting rid of the scum that rule this town! Do you want our children to grow up in this Hell hole?!”

“I won’t have your kids if you keep going out every night like this!” She yelled. She was in tears now.

“What do you want from me, Sarah?” he asked

“I want a husband, Dean. Not a super hero.” She replied

“Well, I’m sorry.” He said, “But this is who I am, and I wouldn’t get rid of it for anyone.”

Sarah fell completely into tears. She put her hands over her eyes and ran out of the room, sobbing.

Dean cursed, He bowed his head and closed his eyes.

Dean got up and put on his grey suit, and walked into the kitchen where he found Sarah sitting with a mug of coffee that said “World’s Best Wife” on it. She had her hands over her face and was in tears. Dean walked over to her, and put his hand on her shoulder.

“Hey…” he said in a comforting whisper, “I’m sorry… You deserve so much more than this… And I’m sorry that I’ve been such a bad husband to you…”

He knelt down so that their eyes were at level with one another.

“You are the most wonderful woman in the world.” He said as he brushed her hair out of her face, “And you deserve a man that is willing to set aside everything he has planned for himself, so that he can be there for you. I’m done. I’m done being a super hero. It seams that I’m not helping anyone… Not the police, Not the city, Not our marriage… From now on, Knight Phoenix is dead.”

Sarah looked up at him. “No.” she said to him, “No… Knight Phoenix needs to stay. You have been more helpful than any six police officers… You are a super hero. And you can’t escape it.”

“Sarah, there are other heroes like X-Ray, and Bolt, and Kyle, an-“

“No!” She replied, “No, you need to do this!”

A Knight on the Town

It was a dark night. The cold, empty park was trashed just as the rest of the city was. Within this park was a tall tree and from the top of the tree, you could see every piece of garbage that lay in the area. A dark figure sat in the tree watching carefully over the park.

A short man wearing a black fedora and a tan trench coat walked to the middle of the park and sat down on a bench near the tree. He removed his hat showing his bald head, wiped sweat away from his forehead and placed the hat back on his head. He looked to be about in his forties. Another man walked into the park. He was tall and had light brown hair. He was wearing a black trench coat. The tall man pulled out from his coat pocket a small plastic bag filled with a white powdery substance.

“Where’s the money?” the tall man asked

“Right here.” The shorter man replied as he pulled out a roll of money rapped in a rubber band from his coat pocket and handed it to the tall man. “Now give me the stuff!” he ordered.

“Wait…” The tall man said, “I gotta count the money first.” He removed the rubber band and flipped through the bills. “I can’t see a damned thing without any light.

"I got a light!” The Dark Figure yelled to them from above as he dove down and unleashed his firey wings from his back.

"It's Him!” the short man yelled as he ran away, “Run!”

The tall man turned to run, but The Dark Figure swooped down, picked up the tall man, and flew about fifty feet into the sky.

"Not so fast!” The Dark Figure said.

The man quickly pulled out from his coat pocket a gun, and pointed it at the dark figure’s chest.

"Let me go!” the tall man ordered.

“Fine.” The dark figure replied.

He let go of the man and let him drop to the ground. There was a large CRACK when the man hit the ground. His femur snapped and he passed out.

The Dark Figure then flew after the short man and threw a great ball of fire at his legs. The fire ball hit the short man’s legs and set his pants on fire. The Dark figure swooped down and tore the man’s pants off and punched him in the face and knocked him out. He then stomped on the man’s pants until the fire went out.

He grabbed both of the men, and flew them to the hospital. He carried the two men inside the hospital and set them on a desk and left a note in an envelope that on the outside read:

MF

The nurse ran away from the counter into another room, and then reappeared with a doctor to find the dark figure gone. The doctor picked up the envelope and opened it. The note read:

Dear Dr. Miguel Francis,

As you can see, I have caught another two criminals. One a drug dealer, the other a drug abuser. The tall one is the dealer. As you will see, the tall one has a broken femur… He took quite a fall. I am requesting that you call the police right now, then begin to work on the criminal… He deserves to suffer. This one pulled a gun on me. I have taken your request into consideration. However, I was unable to stop this criminal without doing some damage to his body. The smaller one has suffered some burn injuries to his right leg. You've probably already noticed this due to the fact that he has on no pants … I’m sorry I could not stay to talk to you tonight, but I have a very important date with my wife, and I am already late…

Always a pleasure,

Knight Phoenix
